Our study group is located in Hamilton, just outside of Trenton. Please feel free to contact us for more information, or to stop by and watch a practice session (and join in if you're feeling adventurous).
Frank Petrino, the study group leader, is an experienced martial artist, having studied open hand forms such as Muay Thai, Western Boxing, Wing Chun, Tai Chi and Brazilian Jiu jitsu, and weapon forms such as Kali.
The group is mainly studying the Italian longsword of Fiore dei Liberi, but will also pick up the daggers or spears on a regular basis.
September 2007
Currently we are studying and practicing the Giocco Largo plays of Fiore. New students will begin with the First Masters of Battle course, which is based on the book of the same name written by Schola Principale, Brian Price.
Frank Petrino has also been working on translations and interpretation of Fiore's Giocco Stretto plays with the longsword. More news will be posted concerning this as new developments arise. If you are interested on the progress made to date, contact Frank at the link posted on this page.

Practice consists of a 10-15 minute warm-up of stretching and boxing with focus mits.
Next, various footwork and solo striking drills with the sword are done for 10-15 minutes.
Then selected plays from either the Giocco Largo or the First Masters of Battle course are practiced, examining possible counters and follow-on attacks.
Sometimes we will throw in some focused sparring depending on the desires of the student.

Abrazare / Daga Weekend

SSG Zohgo Stretto Study / Tournament
Oct 20th - Oct 21st 2007
DFW will host this STUDY WEEKEND FOR ZOGHO STRETTO and SUNDAY TOURNAMENT!
Friday evening, 10-19: Testing for all out of town scolari and get-together at Brian & Ann's house.
Saturday, 10-5pm: Brian will introduce the "first cut" of the 4th SSG module, the zogho stretto. Students will survey all of the sexy zogho stretto plays, working also with some of the daga and abrazare materials.
Sunday, 9-12: Open sparring & testing time.
Sunday: 12-3: SSG Pas d'Armes style tournament.
All held in the City of Lewisville Civic Center, 191 Civic Center Drive, in Lewisville. Cost for the weekend is $65.

Our first testing was held in August of 2005 at Pennsic War for Joanne Bacchus and Frank Petrino. Both successfully completed the test, and were awarded the rank of Compagno. Nick Bacchus also successfully tested to the rank of Compagno at WMAW 2005 in Racine, WI. |
