RECENT NEWS
The SSG New Jersey welcomes two new members - Kevin Hollenbeck and Rob Pivovarnick - who are beginning their study with the two-handed sword of Fiore dei Liberi.  Best of luck to Kevin and Rob.

CURRENT CLASSES


Medieval Swordsmanship
: Classes are all based on the teachings of Master Fiore dei Liberi.  Focus is mainly on the Giocco Largo plays, with increasing emphasis on integration and sparring. Some time is also spent on basic Abrazzare and Daga plays, as well as the Giocco Stretto plays of the longsword.

Zogho Stretto Integration: Focus is on the proper use of the zogho stretto plays of the longsword.  This will mainly consist of focused drill work and sparring.

UPCOMING EVENTS


SSG Pas d'Armes, Fall 2009: Central NJ Study Group Leader, Frank Petrino, will be travelling up to Dallas for a weekend of training and fighting.  All of the details are not finalized, so look to the Forums for the discussion on this event.

PAST EVENTS

SSG East Coat Spring Get Togeter, May 2009: Central NJ Study Group Leader, Frank Petrino,  traveled up to Boston for a weekend of training, testing and sparring.  The other members of the group, Joanne and Nick Bacchus, made it up as well.  Several of the Schola Saint George "big wigs" were also in attendance, including Brian Price (from Texas), Colin Hatcher (from California) and Patrick Olterman (all the way from the UK).  It was a great weekend of training.  See the Boston Study Group page for more details.

Schola Symposium 2009: Central NJ Study Group Leader, Frank Petrino, was supposed to present a class on "How to Become a Better Training Partner", but was forced to cancel the trip due to illness.  He will be filming this class in several parts which will be posted to the Videos tab of this website.  

SSG East Coat Mini Get Togeter, April 2009:
 Frank Petrino travelled up to Boston for another great weekend of training, sparring and testing.  Four new Compagni were made - two new youth member, Aden and Yonah, and two new adult members, Stephanie and Dave, were welcomed into the ranks.  Well done!  See the East Coast Forums for more details.


SSG East Coast Winter Get Together 2009:
 See the Event Report in the Forums for more details.  A weekend of fun, training, sparring and great conversation was had by all attending.  The "Get Together" events are always full of new ideas, and this one was no different.  Special thanks to Charles Deily, the Boston Study Group Leader, for not only organizing the event, but for also coordinating with The Academy of Knightly Arts and Forte Swordplay for a joint sparring session. 

Abrazzare e daga Seminar by SSG Instructor, Colin Hatcher: The New Jersey Study Group will be travelling up to Boston in February for an Abrazzare and Daga weekend with the Boston Area Study Group and Instructor Colin Hatcher from the SF Bay Area Branch. See the events page for more details.

SSG East Coast Get Together, 2008: On May 3rd, the New Jersey Study Group will again be travelling to Boston for the second annual "East Coast Get Together" for a weekend of fun, intense training and a Pas d'Armes. SSG Principale Brian Price will also be in attendance. **Special Note - the Central NJ group unfortunately did not travel to this event.  Frank and his new wife, Jennifer, were out of town on their honeymoon that weekend. **

EQUIPMENT
For new or prospective students, basic loaner equipment will be provided by Frank Petrino for use while at class. Wear athletic shoes and loose fitting clothing for general practice. Regular students should seek to acquire sturdy leather gloves, a training sword (wood, aluminum or steel) and a fencing mask to start. Other equipment such as a gambeson (or zuparello), medieval shoes, helmet, gorget, groin protection and gauntlets may be purchased at a later date, as sparring becomes more of a focus in training. Many of these items can be purchased at the Revival website (www.revival.us).
