Want to study but don't have a group? Some people just don't have access to bunch of folks to train with. For those people--or for those who want to continue their studies and who move away from an SSG study group or branch--we have our Independent Scholar program. Independent Scholars study the core curriculum like other Schola students, but they usually rely more heavily on the books, videos, (and soon to come our FORUM and GALLERY of training materials). New students usually begin with our book, Sword in Two Hands, learning about the stances, footwork, key guards, power generation, strikes, thrusts, striking to cover, and the defensive plays. The book is designed to convey a lot of background information and analysis. But there is also a DVD of an SSG seminar, so that much of it can be see in action. Other material is available in the Gallery of this website. Intermediate students also work through the curriculum. Often at this point they have found a training partner, or have started a study group of their own, but neither is required. If you are independently-minded and want to begin or to continue the study of medieval or "chivalric" swordsmanship on your own, then the Schola welcomes your participation and will do everything we can to make your study a success. Our objective is to transform all of our students into knowledgeable instructors in their own right. Join the Schola Now! Check out more about Study Groups Check our more about SSG training
