  • Independent Scholars   ( 2 Articles )

Independent Scholars are SSG members working away from a study group, branch, or affiliated dojo/school. We are building a robust program to support our indepndents, including video training materials, conditiioning regimes, and exercises-games.

Content for members includes conditioning schedules, training videos, and soon, a list of independent scholars in search of training partners.

  • Running a Study Group   ( 2 Articles )

The Schola now supports both study groups--small bands of scholars who work independently on our curriculum--and affiliated schools, which are dojos or fencing schools that use the SSG curriculum as a auxillary offering.

Study groups have at least three paid members and follow the SSG curriculum. Normally study groups practice one or more times per week, often using city "leisure services", university or even a backyard/park until numbers rise. Individuals within the study group may choose their own sparring style in terms of simulators and armor chosen, may test at SSG events or even by video, get a home page and calendaring functions integrated with the SSG site, and can collect bounties for memberships collected.

    Study groups get:

    • INSURANCE (within the U.S.)
    • Training curriculum
    • Guidance & marketing through the SSG site
    • Marketing materials (flyers, etc.)
    • Access to video training and video testing for all members
    • Comaraderie with "like-minded" students of the Art

To form a study group, three members must be paid through the SSG site. There must be a treasurer and a study group leader, who are officers of the group and who make periodic reports to the SSG Board of Directors. The study group leader will additional coordinate a practice site and time, and make sure that there is a training curriculum for each session.

Once there are three members registered, send a message to any of the SSG Board members or the Secretary, who will forward a Study Group Application. Once complete, we will set up your Study Group page that you can administer and a FORUM for your group. Often, but not always, study groups like to bring in an SSG instructor to present the fundamental "ellefante" material. When this material has been absorbed, the members may test and go onto level 2.

Along the way, there are many helpful people on the SSG site who are waiting and very willing to help. To get started, simply get three memberships!

Over the next few months our objective is to make the application process smoother, and the study group application will become an online component. Thanks for your patience!
